Ceramic - Frilled Hirashimizu Dish

This dainty little ceramic dish exudes quiet beauty and oozes practicality. Its soft pale bluish-white glaze resembles the skin of a pear; the result of expertly blending the iron-rich soil collected from the base of Chitoseyama mountain with red pine ash. A technique perfected over centuries, capturing the spirited simplicity of rural design.

This versatile dish can really be anything you like. Use it to organise your trinkets, as a butter pat or even as a soap dish.

Handmade in one of the only two remaining kilns in the Yamagata prefecture, carrying a legacy of over 200 years.

Product Story
Hokkaido

"Konichiwa", the staff behind the desk at Aomori's ferry terminal greet us with typical Japanese alacrity. It's 7 a.m. and we feel utterly exhausted. Having driven over 700km from Tokyo's Narita airport over the past couple of days to make it this far, it is perhaps inevitable.
