A period when many talented artisans with workshops in the vicinity of Kiyomizu-dera temple in Kyoto produced functional and decorative pieces for local homes and regional markets.
Known in Japanese as nishikigoi, the Koi symbolises qualities of perseverance, resilience and good fortune.
